Rakhi On Her Acting Break And Nude Controversies

rakhi_sawant3.jpgRakhi Sawant was much known for her sizzling moves and hot item numbers. She was fondly called the “Pardesiya Girl”. It ws 13th of April’2005 and the time for Rakhi to get into serious films. It was Rakhi’s long overdue acting break into bollywood which came with Deepak Tijori’s Khamosh - Khauff Ki Raat. At that point of time, Rakhi Sawant wa revealed to the world via a small interview wherin she talked about her acting break, semi-nude controversies and much more. Here’s how it goes.

Masti, Main Hoon Na and now Khamosh. This is the third movie in a row where you are doing more than item number, tell us about your role?

I play the character of a loud film actress; loud as in she is very hyper about any situation. The story is very interesting; it’s a story of one night in a motel, how a lot of people come together and how the story proceeds from there.

There is this controversial scene in the movie that the censor board has objected to…

Yes there is a bathroom scene, but Deepak had informed me about it before signing me for the film, he had also asked me if I was comfortable doing that. After discussing how it would be shot, I agreed to do it. I have seen the scene and it has been shot aesthetically. Its part of my job, I have no regrets whatsoever about doing it.

How did you land up in this role?

Deepak had seen my ‘Pardesiya’ video and he liked my work, that’s how he approached me for this character.

The movie has Shilpa Shetty and Juhi Chawla from the prominent lot of actresses, plus it has a lot of other actors. Any insecurity?

No, there are no hero - heroines in the movie everybody is playing characters; so nobody is over shadowing others in the film. I am glad that I have no songs in this film and I am happy that for a change I have been given a chance to act. I hope I have given the performance Deepak was expecting from me.

Only one song in the movie and surprisingly you are not part of it…

Luckily, the so-called tag of Item girl that I have has been taken off in this movie. I had asked Deepak that inspite of having me in the movie you are not making me do any songs, wont the distributors ask you but then he explained to me that he is making the film in a very different way. He told me that everyone knows you as an item girl; I want to make you act now. I couldn’t have turned down such an offer.

Tell us about the song you have done in Kamal Hassan’s Mumbai Xpress.

Kamal Hassan saw me in my video ‘Haadsa’ and he liked my performance. He then signed me in the film for an item number, however when I went to shoot there, he was so impressed by my work that he gave me a few dialogues too in the movie.

Now that you are on the trek of breaking the ‘item’ tag how difficult is it?

Actually its not very difficult, I am getting roles now that are neither negative nor are they restricted to an item number.

Main Hoon Na was one of the biggest hit of the year 2004, how satisfied were you with your role?

Very much!I don’t restrict myself from doing a role because of the length, it doesn’t matter to me. In Main Hoon Na I had a lot many scenes and dialogues, I had shot for a month and a half, but then they got chopped later. However what I did got me noticed.

How helpful has it been to step in Bollywood through Item numbers?

It has been very helpful, honestly. I have progressed after doing these small roles and item numbers, I have struggled and worked hard too. After theatre my first break came with Chura Liya and thereon things are happening fine, after Item number, second leads, lead, everything is happening on its own.

Can we peep into your kitty?

There is Khamosh lined up for release, then there is 12′0 clock, which has Isha Kopikkar and me, then Mumbai Express. I am also doing a film with Jimmy Shergill called Khafaa, doing quite a lot of videos, doing a lot of shows, so by god’s grace I am quite busy in life as of now.

Surely we came to know much more about Rakhi Sawant with this brief interview. Rakhi You’re The Best!!!!
